KATHMANDU — As many as 14 jailbirds were set free from District Prison, Dhulikhel to mark the occasion of the Republic Day 2074.
Jailer Mahesh Kumar Pokharel said he had received recommendations to free 24 inmates, but only 14 were set free.
The freed inmates include Chandra Manandhar, Kusa Devika Jyambal Lama of Dhulikhel, Tika Nagarkoti of Ramechap, Dinesh Shrestha of Kavre, Faud Bahadur Thapaliya of Sasyukharka, Bhim Bahadur Tamang of Mahankaal Chaur, Manoj Tamang of Koshidekha, Man Bahadur Mahat of Gorkha, Radheshyam Shrestha of Ganagal, Banepa, Rup Bahadur Bishwokarma of Sarlani, Basudev Bhandari of Sindhupalchowk, Shiva Tamang of Kavre, Shailendra Parajuli of Dhulikhel and Subash Tamang of Kavre.
Most of the freed inmates were serving sentences for practicing polygamy. Four were serving sentences for murder, two for robbery and two for vehicular accident leading to death.
They were serving since 2008.
