Sandeep Lamichanne to feature for ICC World XI against Windies

KATHMANDU — Nepal’s leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been selected from ICC World XI to play a special fund raising T-20 match against West Indies in Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood in London on May 31, ICC said on Wednesday.

The charity match is ogranised to support redevelop the stadia in the Caribbean, which was damaged due to hurricanes last year.

The fund collected from the match would be donated for the rebuilding of the Jamesh Ronald Webster Park ground in Anguilla and Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica which were damaged by the Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

Sandeep will play along side England’s Eoin Morgan (captain) Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Mitchell McClenaghan (New Zealand),Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), Dinesh Karthik (India), Hardik Pandya (India), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan),  Shoiab Malik (Pakistan),  and Luke Ronchi (New Zealand) against the likes of Crhis Gayle, Samuel Badree, Carlos Brathwaite, Evin Lewis, Marlon Samuels and Andre Russell among others.

Sandeep is currently playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League and will play in the Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament in the summer. Sandeep had made his debut in the IPL from Delhi Daredevils against Royals Challengers Bangalore this week.

He was picked by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for a fee of USD 5,000 during the CPL auction in London.

Leg spinner Sandeep was spotted by then Nepal coach Sri Lanka born Canadian Pubudu Dassanayake in 2014 at a trial camp in Chitwan district.
